Chic Wine Tasting in Healdsburg

Happy Friday!  I wish I was here!  Healdsburg is by far my favorite town in the California Wine Country.  Right on the Healdsburg Square there is a little wine tasting salon that is fabulous, The Boisset Taste of Terroir

Lets talk about this room for a minute...love,love,love that chandelier! It is so amazing in person...I definitely need to file in have to have but can't afford file.   And how about those Philippe Starck ghost chairs with the Carrara marble table? Love!

The The Boisset Taste of Terroir wine tasting room has selections of Sonoma wines and Burgundies.  It is an interesting concept, to taste French wines along with California selections in order to compare and contrast them and I think it is a great idea.

Cheers Y'all!  I hope you have a chic weekend that involves some sipping of wine...or champagne...

Fig and Olive Los Angeles

The Los Angeles location of Fig and Olive opened in March and I finally had a chance to check it out last weekend.  I was a little apprehensive about trying Fig and Olive after reading some not so great Yelp reviews for this place.

We were having an emergency at home and the night started off with me calling to push back our 7:00 reservation because there was no way we would make it on time.  The host was so gracious and helpful and said they would try their hardest to fit us in at 7:30.

When we got there and checked in, they seated us right away...after pushing our reservation I thought there was no way we would be seated before 8pm.  The place was on fire!  Seriously, it is a hot spot!

When we walked in I was blown away by how beautiful and grand the space is.  There is a 50 foot marble bar in the front where you can have small plates and cocktails.

We started off with an assortment of crostinis which were just OK to be honest.  The bread with olive oil tasting was delicious and our entrees were outstanding.  I ordered the burrata salad and the scallops and both were amazing.  Other dishes had at our table were fish, fillet mignon and lamb.  I think that the meat dishes were definitely the entrees that stood out the most.  Very tasty and cooked perfectly.  Our service was impeccable and I only have good things to say about this place.

You should at least pop in Fig and Olive for a drink, good people watching and to check out the decor.

Lacquer Trays

I love lacquer trays on coffee tables, bars, console tables, ottomans and anywhere in the house where clutter needs to be contained.  Here are a few of my favorites...

The top three are from Jonathan Adler

West Elm has a great selection and they are very affordable...shown above.

This Kane Lacquer Tray is from World Market if you are looking for a pattern or some color.

Love this white lacquer tray with black trim from Gearys
This Plum and Gold Tray is an affordable option from Caspari.

Beverly Hills Hotel Easter Brunch

We had brunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Easter Sunday.  We had a great time and even had some star sightings!  Jessica Alba, Kevin Conolly, Maria Shriver and Rob Scneider were all enjoying brunch there as well but the the highlight of the day was the Easter Bunny!

I love the entrance to the lobby!

We had a great time and the old Hollywood feel of the Beverly Hills Hotel was a perfect setting for out of town guests.  Hope you had a wonderful Easter!

Bee Update and Saturday Dinner Decor

Bees are gone!  Woo hoo!  The Bee Man came on Friday and sucked up the rest of the bees so we were able to have our Saturday Easter Dinner!  This is the only picture of bees I have because my camera of course died during the whole ordeal.  See previous post if you are not up to speed on the bee story.

So here are some pics of the table setting from Saturday.

Enjoy and have a great Monday.  My week is off to a fabulous start!  Got stuck in the elevator on my way to get coffee and had to pull the alarm and wait for them to get me out!  Good times!

The Secret Life of Bees

Happy Friday!  I never wanted this blog to turn into a place to write life stories but this one I had to share!  I promise that if you stick through this wordy post, you will BEE entertained!

So, the last few weeks have been CRAZY.  With travel and work and getting the house ready for Easter guests, I have just been running around like mad.  I decided to re-upholster all the living room furniture, fix the outdoor lighting, seal the marble counters, meet the handy man every few days to fix odds and ends and the list goes on.

I finally feel like things are settling down and I get the furniture back from the upholsterer at 9pm wednesday, the night before my mom and boyfriend's mom come in town and I am feeling good...other than the fact that I will probably re-do it again but that is another story...oh and that we ran over the sprinkler in the driveway on our way to dinner the night our furniture got here and water was gushing like a geyser out of the driveway..no joke!  I was standing in the driveway in shock and my boyfriend rolled down the window and told me to get in the car, that we were still going to dinner.  So, I jumped in the car mortified that we were leaving all this water gushing out of our yard...I am sure that is illegal in Cali and Cameron Diaz would not approve(she has gotten mad at me before for leaving water running..another story too)

So, onto the bees...I am rushing home last night to go to meet my mom and BF's mom at the house and get a frantic call from my boyfriend saying that we have bees in our living room...what? I think he is for sure over exaggerating.  I get home and we do in fact have hundreds of bees flying in our windows and a cluster that looks like this...INSIDE THE HOUSE THOUGH

So we call this guy...

David from A BEE MAN.  He says he can be there in forty five minutes.  Now we have no idea how in one day we can amass this amount of bees but I am still calm at this point.  Well bee man calls back and says that he cannot make it because Obama is in town and he is suck in traffic!  Obama loves to come and leave during morning and afternoon rush hours.  Last time he was in LA it took me 3 hours to get home.  Out of all days why is he back when I am trying to get the Bee Man over to my house???

We decide we will meet the bee man later that night and go to dinner at The Fig and Olive because it is the hot new spot and we have reservations and remember, we have guests in town.  Loved The Fig and Olive and will do a major good review on them soon.  They were so nice and sympathized with our bee story and sat us right away.  EXCELLENT food, decor and services... Loved!

Two bottles of wine later and after my boyfriend's mom told us how she has "dreams" about President Obama and that sometimes Mrs. Obama joins in, then she sang "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" over this balcony at the Fig and Olive Restaurant and we were out the door to meet the Bee Man at the house.

Bee Man comes, tells us the Queen Bee lives in our fireplace and that the bees in our living room are scout bees and that probably 10,000 bees live up the chimney with the Queen.  My boyfriend decides to check the flue and thousands of bees fall into our living room and we run around screaming. So bee man covers fireplace with plastic and goes up to the roof to spray some stuff in the chimney.  Then thousands of bees start dying and buzzing and falling to the ground in mass. BZZZ...BZZ  I still hear it in my head.

Then Bee Man sucks up all of bees around house and says to leave cover on fireplace for three days and he will be back to vacuum them out later.  We decide to stay in a hotel.

We come back this morning to more bees flying around and bees in fireplace dying and buzzing still.  We have to go to work so we leave the moms there and promise we will be back for lunch.  I get in the car and surprise surprise I am stuck in Obama traffic because he thinks it is a good idea to fly out of LAX at 9:00am this morning.

I get to work and get a call from moms and they have found a new cluster and more bees flying around?!??!  So that is where I am now and I don't know what we are doing next...

First of all, dead bees stink, who knew?  Second of all, I have guests in town and I am having twelve people over for dinner on Saturday night...have ordered a Ham from Joan's on Third and are we going to still eat at my house knowing that 10,000 dead bees are chilling in the fireplace.

I'll do a post on Joan's and take pics when I go pick up the Ham...I love this place.
They have chocolate covered peeps....I know!

To be continued....

The Farm at Carneros Inn Napa, CA

We spent the weekend in Sonoma with one of my best friends and her husband.  One of our favorite places was The Farm Restaurant at Carneros Inn in Napa.  The resort is in a barn like building with stylish and modern decor.

The resort is the epitome of  California living.  There are tons of outdoor/indoor areas all built around the wine country landscape.

We had a glass of wine out here before dinner.  I love the glassed in fireplace and how cute are those chairs?

Here is a picture of inside the The Farm Restaurant.  They did a great job continuing the mix of rustic and modern design in the dining room.  I did not take any pictures of  inside the restaurant so these are from the Carneros Inn website so you can get a feel for what it looks like.

The food was delicious!   We started with the wood stone oven flatbreads with leeks, ricotta and wild mushrooms...so good!  I had the beet salad and the scallops and both were excellent.  Other entrees at our table were the Rocky Jr Chicken and the Liberty Farms Duck Breast.  We all really enjoyed our meals but I think my favorite part was having wine by the outdoor fireplace.

I had to throw a picture of the pool in!  How amazing is that view!!!!

We had a great dinner and it is definitely worth making a stop for at least a glass of wine by the fire!
I wouldn't mind checking out the accommodations and staying at  Carneros Inn the next time we are in wine country :)

Outdoor Living Space in Sonoma

via Elle Decor

How amazing is this outdoor dining table and chairs?  I love the marble tabletop and the wood klismos dining chairs are to die for!

This is the Sonoma County home of designers Jeffry Weisman and Andrew Fisher.  It is the most beautiful home but what really blew me away were the outdoor spaces they designed.

Look at that breathtaking view!  I would love to be lounging on this porch drinking a glass of wine and taking in the view.

Or I would be just as happy lounging by the pool!

We are going to Sonoma this weekend and I might have to do a weeks worth of posts on restaurants, hotels and stores...and wine!!!  Have a great weekend!

To see more of this house you can go to Elle Decor.

Antica Farmacista

I recently was a guest at a friend's house and the guest room had the most amazing scent.  Every time I walked in the room there was this faint fresh smell that I was obsessed with.  I finally figured out that it was an Antica Farmacista diffuser that was in the bathroom.

Antica Farmacista brought the reed diffuser concept to the United States in 2003.  Their scents are inspired by the Mediterranean Sea and Tuscany.

I just ordered the Santorini scent which is the same scent I feel in love with at my friend's house.

You can order them online at Antica Farmacista, Nordstroom and Neiman Marcus.  If you look on the Antica Farmacista website you can see which stores carry them so that you can smell them in person before you make a purchase.  They come in three different sizes and the price ranges from $25 to $95.

Oh!  They also make great gifts!  Look at the packaging for this cute gift set!
